Hello humans, Torrey here!
We devised this list because there can really never be too much information or support out there for van lifers and other nomadic-type folks. Plus, as many of you know, we are still in the beginning phases of our van life journey (VERY beginning - infantile) and posting stuff like this forces me to do my own research about things that will help us out once we FINALLY make it into the van full time. So, without further ado, here are 7 different hooks to use while living out of your vehicle!
Okay, enough self-promotion. If you are a nomad who is interested in healing stones, but aren’t sure where to start, here is a nice little guide for you.
Hello, Humans!
Torrey here! Hope all is well in your human life. WE are Joseph & Torrey, and WE ARE Humans En Route. I'll wait for your applause... ANYWAY, we are starting this journey in an effort to actually LIVE life as opposed to finding a way to justify choking down that bitter 9-5 until the sweet release of death. Typical millennials, I know. *sigh* #basicbitches. [[side note: I love our generation.]] Our goal is to figure out how to making a living without having to be in one place while still doing what we love and minimize the amount of "stuff" we think we need in our lives by getting rid of all of it, being electively homeless, and travelling around in a van seeing some dope shit along the way by or before June 2018. Oh, and planning a wedding somewhere in there. (Did I forget to mention that? Don't get me started... -_-) Any advice, or large sums of money are welcomed and appreciated. :) One of our goals with this undertaking is to create community among folks who are doing the same thing! We know there are a lot of people out there - namely millennials - who are livin' the #vanlife in search of something deeper than mere survival and we want to meet you! Community support is so important, especially in a situation where it is easy to feel very alone and disconnected. We want to connect! Another entity we want to connect with is Mother Earth. It is no coincidence that Humans En Route's acronym is HER - to honor her, the great mother. We want to do whatever we can to honor her on our adventure and marvel in the gifts she has given us, truly utilizing them to enjoy and nourish ourselves. We believe in sustainability! So, in light of all of that, here's what's going on right now. Joseph is working his usual 9-5 and I recently lost my 9-5 job (not by choice) and am trying to figure out how to make a Birth Doula business profitable, design a childbirth prep workshop, start a travel blog (oh, heyy look at that), and find a day job that pays enough to cover the bills and doesn't require an hour commute (we live in LA, that's harder than it sounds). Through all of that there are some difficult days. I would venture to say there are more difficult than easy days as of late. Not that I'm ungrateful for what we have - we have a big one bedroom in Long Beach a 20 minute walk to the downtown area and a 5 minute bike ride from the beach, we have 2 cars, we have an adorable dog baby who brings joy to every day, we have our physical health, we have enduring and loving spirits, and we have each other. We are wealthy in many, many ways, however, our financial needs become more and more glaringly obvious with each passing day. In completely honest vulnerability, I will tell you that much of my day is spent trying not to have a complete mental break down, and I'm not saying that ironically or sarcastically. This shit is hard. Not being able to pay bills is hard. It is demoralizing, and it is unfortunately a very silent battle. Nobody talks about money in our culture unless they have it, and even then it is only brought up if the person in privilege brings it up first and how they got their money (all the rich people secrets) is rarely spoken of. A person's wealth is usually only spoken of in "things" - they want to show you their fancy new car or house or boat or phone - but how a person is to acquire this mysterious financial abundance is some big secret that only the people who already have it know. Shit, they certainly aren't telling us how to do it. I sometimes feel a little bit like I'm in the Truman Show being hazed and then once I somehow finally figure it out they'll pull back the curtain and there will be a roaring round of applause, "She did it!" (Apparently I have a secret desire to be applauded.) Well, we say FUCK that. We are rejecting the idea that the only way to be happy and/or financially wealthy is to use your bachelor's degree to get hired and work your way up some stupid corporate ladder under the ruse that one day YOU'LL be the boss and you won't have to answer to anybody only to eventually hit a ceiling (probably a glass one) and realize that someone is STILL pulling your puppet strings like the silly marionette you've always been! There IS a way to be happy and financially comfortable using a different method, and we are going to figure that out! Care to join? Okay, well, enough of my bitching and run-on sentences. This is our blog where you can follow our journey into discovering ~the meaning of life~ by getting a van and travelling like nomadic nimrods! Here it is, day 1. You read it first! Over & out! -Torrey P.S. To see more of our story check out our Humans En Route Instagram page! P.S.S. Sorry this post was weirdly negative. And sorry I'm weirdly apologizing for it when I should just be owning my shit. |
